Accounting for Income Taxes is a challenging area to understand – even for tax professionals. Being able to fully understand income tax accounting starts with a solid foundation. This course is designed for both tax professionals and accountants who want to understand basic ASC 740 concepts and terminology; how to prepare a basic tax provision calculation; how to prepare journal entries and how to report the results in the financial statements and footnote disclosures (privately held companies). This course is a workshop that will include the preparation of a basic tax provision in an excel model from start to finish.

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Apply key ASC 740 concepts and terminology
  • Compute the current tax provision computation
  • Compute the deferred tax provision computation
  • Prepare an effective tax rate reconciliation
  • Prepare the journal entries to record the tax provision
  • Report the tax provision in the financial statements/footnote disclosure

About the Speaker:

As a successful and experienced tax advisor, Rebecca Kelly understands the importance of continued learning and development in the accounting profession. She started her career as an associate professor with the University of Georgia, J.M. Tull School of Accounting. She later accepted a role with Deloitte in their tax practice and spent the next 16 years of her career working in public accounting where she held numerous leadership roles that involved training initiatives.
