Stay current with April’s standard-setting activity, including key Financial Accounting Standards Board discussions on crypto assets, cash flow improvements, and a new ASU on paid-in-kind dividends. This update also covers Governmental Accounting Standards Board exposure drafts, upcoming meetings for the Auditing Standards Board and Accounting and Review Services Committee, and the latest on the 2026 Compliance Supplement timeline.

The FASB met twice in April. The first meeting focused on crypto assets and the second on Statement of cash flows—targeted improvements, Portfolio layer method for financial liabilities, and agenda prioritization—definition of a public business entity. They also issued the first ASU of 2026 on Initial Measurement of Paid-in-Kind Dividends on Equity-Classified Preferred Stock.

The GASB did not meet in April but did issue for public comment The Structure for Communicating Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for State and Local Governments.

Neither the ASB nor ARSC met in April. Both have meetings scheduled for May.

The PEEC also did not meet in April but will meet in May.

Many have asked about the status of the 2026 Compliance Supplement. At this point, an exact date has not been provided.

Melisa Galasso, CPA, CSP, CPTD

She also serves on the FASB’s Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee (NAC), AICPA Council, and the AICPA’s Women’s Initiative Executive Committee (WIEC). She also serves as a Subject Matter Expert for the Center for Plain English Accounting. She previously served on the AICPA’s Technical Issues Committee (TIC), the VSCPA’s Board of Directors, and is a past Chair of the NCACPA’s A&A committee. In addition, Melisa is the author of Money Matters for Nonprofits: How Board Members Can Harness the Power of Financial Statements by Understanding Basic Accounting which is available on Amazon or anywhere you purchase books online.

Melisa received a Top 50 Women in Accounting Award in 2021 by Ignition, is a 2020 Enterprising Women of the Year Award recipient, and was honored as a “40 under 40” by CPA Practice Advisor in 2017, 2018, and 2019. She was also named the 2019 Rising Star by her regional NAWBO chapter, received the Don Farmer award for achievement in technical content instruction, and earned several other awards for public speaking and technical training.
